Adjust Nissan Forklift Chains

Post by Todd »

Looking for instructions on how to adjust the lift chains on our Nissan Forklift. It is a 3 stage mast and when the forks are on the ground, the chains are real loose. It only has about 7,000 hours on it, so I don't think the chains need to be replaced. I know the forks are not suppose to touch the ground.

I found some information from Nissan on how to adjust the middle chains, but when I do, I noticed that when the second stage starts to move, the stops up on top of the mast between the first and second stage are like 3 inches from touching. I thought they were suppose to be less than an inch apart when the second stage starts to go up?

Do I need to adjust the secondary chains also? Which ones do I do first to get the stops to line up better and get the forks off the ground.

Hello and welcome to fixaforklift.com

Adjusting the chains can be tricky to get them just right.
You can start by getting the mast at exactly 90 degree from the forks to the mast.
start by adjusting the inner chains first then work your way upwards to the other set, the goal is to see about half way of the lower carriage roller sticking out of the bottom of the mast slide.

if you are able to put a socket on the chain adjusters the torque is 50-70 ft. lbs

the heel of the forks should not drag while driving with the forks down it should be
once the main lift chains are adjusted with tension that feels about the same or torqued the same that adjustment is done and continue to adjust the other set.

the middle section should be about an inch before it reaches the top, keep on moving the chains setscrew up until it reaches about that point, then lock it in.

Truck with 7k hours shouldnt need chains right away it is possible some one did not do the PDI correctly to begin with
