Wont move forward or back

Post by Tom »

Newer Mitsubishi reach truck wont drive in forward or reverse. When I turn the key to on, the unit powers up and the dash readout comes on but it will not move when I use the joystick. I seem to remember hearing a click as you move the stick when it was working correctly but don't hear anything now. We checked all the fuses and they were good.

I read on a Mitsubishi forum that the problem could be with the electric brake. Does that sound right? How do I test for that?

Hello and welcome to fixaforklift.com!!

There is an electric brake that is located on top of the steer/drive motor, the best way to test it is to jack the truck up, block the front wheels, and remove the brake assembly to ensure it does not actuate, you can leave the pigtail connected to hear a "click" when the key turns on, if you do not hear a click it is possible that you have a bad brake assembly and needs to be replaced,

you can probe the 2 wire pigtail, you can put the black probe on the negative side of the wire and the red probe on the harness while the truck is on and nt be on the actuating platform, you should see battery voltage on one side after you step on the platform, if you do not find a schematic on the truck or a part dealer and trace the power wire to complete the circuit,

most commonly the brake assembly is electromagnetic and it is known to wear and or fail, more than likely brake assembly is not releasing will need to be replaced
