Bounces When Lowering And Slow

Post by Teddy »

Mitsubishi ESR23N2 reach truck when lowering from the second stage down to the top of free lift, the carriage will start to bounce and lowers very slow. It gets worse when there is a load on the forks. If you let go of the handle to stop lowering, then hit is a gain it will lower faster and work fine until the next time. We checked the fluid level and there are no error codes on the display. It lowers fine at any stage except free lift.

This is a common problem on the Mitsubishi ERS23n2. The carriage will slow down as soon as it gets from second stage to free lift. You may even hear a change in hydraulic pressure. The problem is the check valve in the bottom of the free lift main cylinder piston.

There is actually 2 valves. One is actually in the bottom of the piston and requires removing the piston from the cylinder, then other is in the bottom of the cylinder, not piston, and can be accessed by removing the pipe fitting from the cylinder. See pics below. Luckily this common problem is the easier repair.

The spring on the valve breaks and causes the valve to bind in the bore. This causes pressure problems and the carriage will slow down when lowering. Sometimes it will even bounce. Releasing the handle and then lowering again will cure the problem until the forks are lifted again past free lift.

Support the carriage and remove the fitting from the piston. BE SURE TO SUPPORT IT ! This is the free lift cylinder and it will come crashing down as soon as you loosen the fitting.

Pick out the 3 pieces of the check valve assembly. Make sure to remove any broken parts of the spring. Use a pick and a magnet to get the pieces out. Make sure you have a pan under the truck because fluid will be coming out the entire time you are doing the repair.
