CAT GP25 is not starting.

Post by JorgeCB »

Hello,

I am having trouble getting this GP25 to start. I have fuel, I have spark and the timing belt is right on time, but the machine is still not starting.

Does anyone know why I cannot get this to start?

Thank you.

Hello and welcome to fixaforklift.com!!

I have been in this situation before it ended up needing spark plugs, since the LP is alot more sensitive to ignite than gasoline.

But I will try my best to answer this,\

the main LP hose going to throttle body should be pressured at about 5 psi while trying to crank it, this can be measured by applying a vacuum gauge to the main hose coming from the mixer to the throttle body.

the best way to make sure you have fuel is to use that technique, or disconnect the hose to the throttle body and try to start it, you should smell LP coming out of that mixer, there is a LOCKOUT solenoid before the mixer, the lock out allows the LP to travel through the mixer,

In more rare of a case, it can be that the actual LP tank may feel full but really it has what is called propelyne, propelyne is a black discharge that can clog the fuel mixer from getting to ignite.

If you have a COBRA mixer try to unscrew the bottom threaded plug while there is no pressure inside the mixer, when you try to crank it black goo will come out, that is propelyne

Also double check any LP lines going to the engine, if you see any frosting more than likely that is a leak, you can try to use soap and water to spot a potential leaking cravice

Let me know if any of these steps fixes it thank you
